Beirut is an American band, originally a solo music project by Zach Condon from Santa Fe. Beirut's music combines elements of indie rock and world music. The group's first concert was held in New York City in May 2006 in support of their debut album, Gulag Orkestar. Condon gave the group the name of the Lebanese capital, due to the city's conflicting history and a crossroads of cultures. Beirut performed in Lebanon for the first time in 2014, at the Byblos International Festival.
