He was a four-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 and a NASCAR superstar. In 1990, he was elected to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame.
Anthony Joseph Foyt Jr. is a retired American racer who has raced in a variety of motorsport racing. Its open wheel races include the American Auto Club Championship car, sprint car, and midsize vehicle. He has been racing car manufacturing at NASCAR and USAC. He has won several major motorsport races. He holds the career record for the number of career wins at USAC with 159 and the number of US Championship titles in his career with 67. He is the only racer to have won the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, Daytona 24 Hours and 24 Hours from Mans. Foyt won the International Race of Champions series in 1976 and 1977. In the NASCAR stock car race, he won the Firecracker 400 in 1964 and the Daytona 500 in 1972. Foyt survived three major crashes resulting in serious injuries and narrow escape death. Foyt's success led to its introduction to many famous motorsport halls. In the mid-1960s, Foyt became the team owner, supplying cars for himself and other drivers.
