A professional bicyclist from Madrid, he is one of only five athletes to have completed all three Grand Tours, which are held in France, Spain, and Italy.

Alberto Contador Velasco is a former professional Spanish cyclist. He was one of the most successful racers of his time, winning the Tour de France twice, Giro d'Italia twice and Vuelta a España three times. He is one of seven riders to have won all three of the cycling Grand Tours and is one of only two riders to have won all three of them once. He has also won the Vélo d'Or record 4 times. He is considered the natural successor to Lance Armstrong and won the 2007 Tour de France Championship with the Discovery Channel team. During his time with the Astana team, he won the Giro d'Italia 2008, Vuelta a España 2008 and the Tour de France 2009. From 2007 to 2011, he won six consecutive Grand Tour tournaments that he participated in. . This included winning the 2010 Tour de France with Astana, although it was later reported that he had been positive for clenbuterol during the race.
