Former Atlanta Mayor and Georgia Congressman who was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s and a member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. President Jimmy Carter appointed him as Ambassador to the United Nations in 1977.

Andrew Jackson Young Jr. is an American politician, diplomat and activist. Beginning his career as a pastor, Young was an early leader of the civil rights movement, executive director of the Southern Catholic Leadership Conference and a confidant of Martin. Luther King Jr. . of Georgia, US Ambassador to the United Nations at the Carter Administration and the 55th Mayor of Atlanta. Since leaving office, Young has formed or served in numerous organizations working on public policy issues and political lobbying.
