William Patrick Corgan is an American professional musician, singer, songwriter and promoter. He is best known as the lead singer, lead musician, guitarist, and the only permanent member of rock band Smashing Pumpkins. He is currently the owner and promoter of the National Wrestling Alliance. Founded by Corgan and guitarist James Iha in Chicago in 1988, The Smashing Pumpkins quickly grew with bassist D'arcy Wretzky and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. Strong album sales and large-scale touring boosted the band's growing popularity in the 1990s until they disbanded in 2000. Corgan formed a new band called Zwan, and after they disbanded, he released a solo album, TheFutureEmbrace, in 2005 and a collection of poetry, Blinking with Fists, before editing Smashing Pumpkins. The group's new version, which includes Corgan and a revolving lineup, has released and toured many new albums since 2007.
