Borut Pahor is a Slovenian politician, the president of Slovenia from December 2012. Before that he served as Prime Minister from November 2008 to February 2012. A longtime member and former chairman of the Party Social Democracy, Pahor served many terms as a member of Congress as its president from 2000 to 2004. In 2004, he was elected a Member of the European Parliament. After the victory of the Social Democratic Party in the 2008 legislative elections, Pahor was appointed Prime Minister. In September 2011, Pahor's government lost a vote of confidence amid economic crisis and political tension. He continued to hold the position of Interim Prime Minister until he was replaced by Janez Janša in February 2012. In June 2012, he announced that he would run for the presidency of Slovenia on a formal basis. He beat incumbent Danilo Türk in a reciprocal election held on December 2, 2012, garnering around two-thirds of the vote.
