Ivan Janša, baptized and better known as Janez Janša, is a Slovenian politician currently serving as the Prime Minister of Slovenia, a position he also held from 2004 to 2008 and 2012. to 2013. Janša was the leader of the Slovenian Democratic Party, which became the Slovenian right-wing party, from 1993. Janša was Minister of Defense from 1990 to 1994, a position he also held. during the Slovenian War for Independence. Janša was Prime Minister from 2004 to 2008, and became Prime Minister again in 2012, after early elections in December 2011. On February 27, 2013, Janša's second government was subverted in a vote of no confidence. In June 2013 Janša was sentenced to two years in prison for corruption. The decision was upheld by a higher court in Slovenia in April 2014, but was subsequently overturned unanimously by the Slovenian Constitutional Court a year later.
