Cara Carleton "Carly" Fiorina is an American businesswoman and politician best known for her term as CEO of Hewlett-Packard. As CEO of HP from 1999 to 2005, Fiorina was the first woman to run a Fortune 20 company. In 2002, Fiorina oversees the largest technology merger in history, HP acquired rival PC maker Compaq. This transaction made HP the largest selling personal computer in the world. HP subsequently laid off 30,000 American employees. However, the number of employees exceeded pre-merger figures and grew to 150,000 during his tenure. In February 2005, she was forced to step down as CEO and president after a disagreed board meeting. After that, she was president of the Good360 charity. Fiorina ran for the US Senate in 2010 and the Republican presidency in 2016 failed.
