Cenk Kadir Uygur is a progressive, Turkish-American political commentator, media presenter, lawyer and journalist. Uygur is the creator of The Young Turks, an American program for news and commentary on left-wing social policy. Before starting his career as a political commentator, he briefly worked as an associate attorney in Washington, D.C. and New York. As a young man, Uygur supported conservative social views, but as his views changed, he began to identify as a progressive man. He is also a co-founder of the Justice Democratic Party. In addition to hosting The Young Turks, Uygur has appeared on MSNBC as a political commentator. From January to June 2011, he held a weekday commentary on the internet; he was replaced by Al Sharpton. After leaving MSNBC, Uygur got another nighttime commentary on Current TV, which aired from December 5, 2011 to August 15, 2013. From 2012 to 2013, he was the News Director of Current TV, succeeding Keith Olbermann.
