With 173 shutouts in Premier League play, he became one of the all-time leaders in appearances and also established the record for most shutouts in Premier League play. From 1992 to 1999, he made 214 games for Liverpool, and from 1997 to 2010, he made 53 appearances for the England national team. He joined Strictly Come Dancing as a contestant in 2019.
