Derek Anthony Redmond is a retired British athlete. During his career, he held England's record in the 400 meter sprint and won a gold medal in 4x400 meter relay events at world and European championships. However, his career was tarnished by a series of injuries. At the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, he ripped a hamstring in the 400-meter semi-final, but continued the race with limp and with the help of his father he completed a full lap as the crowd give him a warm welcome. .
