Dirk Kuijt is a former Dutch professional footballer. Beginning as a striker, he played most of his career as a winger. Kuyt started his professional career in Utrecht in 1998 and quickly became a member of the first team. He spent five years at the club, and in his last season he won his first senior title, the KNVB Cup, and was selected as the Dutch Golden Boot winner of the season. Then he left Utrecht for 1 million euros to settle in Feyenoord. He became the club's captain in 2005 and is the player who has scored the most goals for the Rotterdam club; he was the club's top scorer for three consecutive seasons, the 2004-05 Eredivisie top scorer and the 2005-06 Dutch football player of the year. Kuyt missed just five games in seven seasons from 1999 to 2006 and appeared in 179 straight games from 2001 to 2006, creating a good partnership with teammate Salomon Kalou from Feyenoord.
