Geddy Lee Weinrib, known as Geddy Lee, is a Canadian musician, singer and songwriter. He is known as the lead singer, bassist and keyboardist of the Canadian rock band Rush. Lee joined the group that would become Rush in September 1968, at the request of his childhood friend Alex Lifeson, replacing the original bassist and controller Jeff Jones. Lee's solo effort, My Favorite Headache, was released in 2000. Award winning musician, Lee's style, technique and bass have inspired many rock artists such as Cliff Burton. From Metallica, Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, John Myung of Dream Theater, Les Claypools of Primus and Tim Commerford and Audioslave of Rage Against the Machine. Along with friends of the band Rush - guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer Neil Peart - Lee was made an Officer of the Order of Canada on May 9, 1996. This trio is the first rock group to be honored as such.
