Liberian striker and politician who was named 1995 FIFA World Player of the Year; scored 193 goals in his 411-game club career and competed for the Liberian national team from 1987 to 2007. He was elected to the Liberian Senate in 2014.
George Manneh Oppong Weah is a Liberian politician and former professional soccer player, currently the 25th President of Liberia, in office since 2018. Prior to being elected President, Weah was a District senator. Montserrado. During his football career, he played as a striker. His 18-year professional career ended in 2003. He was the first former African professional soccer player to become head of state. After starting a career in his hometown of Liberia, Weah spent 14 years playing clubs in France, Italy and England. Arsène Wenger brought him to Europe for the first time, signing for Monaco in 1988. Weah moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 1992, where he won Ligue 1 in 1994 and became UEFA's top scorer. 1994–95 Champions League. He signed a contract with A.C.
