About Gyles Brandreth
This Conservative Party member represented the City of Chester in the British Parliament during the 1990s. He wrote The Scrabble Companion and other word game-themed publications, wrote for the television series Dear Ladies, and hosted the BBC Radio 4 show Wordaholics.
Gyles Daubeney Brandreth is an English writer, radio presenter, actor and former politician. Brandreth trained at Oxford University and went on to work as a TV presenter, theater producer, journalist, author and editor. He was a host for TV-am's Good Morning Britain show in the 1980s and regularly appeared on Channel 4's game show Countdown and The One Show on BBC. On the radio, he appeared regularly on BBC Radio's Just a Minute 4. In 1992, Brandreth was elected to the House of Representatives as a Conservative MP for the Chester municipal electoral district. He served until his death in 1997 and continued his media career. He has written both fiction and non-fiction and has appeared as a public speaker.
