Ricardo "Ricky" Antonio Rosselló Nevares is a Puerto Rican politician, scientist and businessman who served as governor of Puerto Rico from 2017 to 2019. He resigned on August 2, 2019 after meetings of protests related to the Telegramgate scandal. He is the son of the former Puerto Rican governor and pediatric surgeon Pedro Rosselló. In 2010 Rosselló founded the political campaign group Boricua ¡Ahora Es! campaign for the change of the current political status of Puerto Rico. Rosselló supported the state of Puerto Rico. After years of political campaigning, Rosselló announced that he would seek the New Progress Party nomination as governor of Puerto Rico in 2016. After winning the New Radical Party's primary election, Rosselló was elected governor in the 2016 general election, beating out 5 other candidates. . In July 2019, Rosselló faced widespread controversy after a discussion on the Telegram app between Rosselló and his staff was made public.
