President Benigno S. Aquino III appointed him as the Philippines' 15th Vice President from June 2010 to June 2016. He was a member of the United Nationalist Alliance political party. In the 2016 Philippine presidential election, he ran for President.

Jejomar Binay is a Filipino politician who served as the 13th Vice President of the Philippines under President Benigno Aquino III. During martial law, he represented political prisoners that were free of charge in the 1970s. After some time he was detained himself. It was also under the Marcos regime that Binay and other human rights lawyers founded the Advocacy Movement for Brothers, Integrity and Nationalism. He was elected mayor of Makati in 1988 and served until 1998. At the same time he was also president of the Manila Capital Development Agency from 1990 to 1991. In 2001 he was re-elected mayor and served until in 2010. He resigned as chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordination Council and served as the Presidential Advisor to Filipino Overseas Workers on June 22, 2015
