Jeremy John Irons is an English actor and activist. After receiving classical training at the Bristol Old Vic Theater School, Irons began his acting career on stage in 1969 and appeared in many productions of the West End theater, including Shakespeare plays. The Winter's Tale, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, The Taming of the Musaraigne and Richard II. In 1984, he made his Broadway debut in Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing and received the Tony Award for Best Actor. Irons' first starring role was in the French lieutenant The Woman's romantic drama, which he received a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor. After starring in dramas such as Moonlighting, Betrayal and The Mission, he was praised for playing the twin gynecologist in David Cronenberg's psychological thriller Dead Ringers. Irons has won numerous awards, including the Oscar for Best Actor, for his role as allegedly trying to kill Claus von Bülow in Reversal of Fortune.
