John Anthony Brooks Jr is a German-American professional footballer who plays as a defender for Bundesliga VfL Wolfsburg and the US national team. Born in Berlin, Germany, he started his career at local club Hertha BSC, making his professional debut in 2012 with a total of 130 games and nine club goals. The team won the Bundesliga 2. 2012-13. In 2017, he moved to VfL Wolfsburg for 20 million euros, a record at the time for an American player. Brooks has represented Germany and the United States at the international youth level, qualifying him for the latter through his father. He made his senior international debut in 2013 and has represented the country at three tournaments, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup
