Matthew John David Hancock is a British politician who has been Secretary of State for Health and Social Affairs since 2018. Before that, he served as Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, and Media and Sport in 2018, for six months. A member of the Conservative Party, he has been a congressman of West Suffolk since 2010. Hancock was born in Cheshire, where his family runs a software company. Hancock studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Exeter College, Oxford, and MPhil in Economics at Christ's College, Cambridge, as graduate students. He was an economist at the Bank of England before becoming Senior Economic Advisor and later Chief of Staff to Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne. Hancock was Senior Minister at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills from September 2013 to May 2015. He attended David Cameron's Cabinet as Minister of the Cabinet Office for five years from 2015 to 2016
