Michael Rubens Bloomberg is an American businessman, politician, philanthropist and author. He is the majority owner and co-founder of Bloomberg L.P. He served as mayor of New York from 2002 to 2013 and was a candidate for the 2020 Democratic nomination for US president. Bloomberg grew up in Medford, Massachusetts and graduated from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Business School. He began his career at the Salomon Brothers brokerage firm before founding his own firm in 1981. This firm, Bloomberg LP, was a financial information, software and communications company known for Bloomberg Terminal. Bloomberg spent the next twenty years as President and CEO. In 2020, Forbes ranked him as the 16th richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $ 48 billion as of April 7, 2020, and as of July 21, 2020, Bloomberg ranked 8th in Forbes 400 with a net worth of $ 60.1 billion.
