Paolo Cesare Maldini is a former Italian professional footballer who has played primarily at left-back and center-back for A.C. Milan and the Italian national team. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest defenders of all time, with some considering him the greatest of all time and one of the greatest players of all time. As captain of Milan and Italy for many years, he was nicknamed "Il Capitano". Maldini holds the record for most Serie A appearances, with 647 games, until 2020, when he is surpassed by Gianluigi Buffon. He is currently the technical director of Milan, as well as the co-owner of championship club USL Miami FC. Maldini spent the 25 seasons of his Serie A career with Milan, before retiring at the age of 41 in 2009
