Born Ahmir Khalib Thompson, he is the drummer for the hip-hop band The Roots, known for such albums as Things Fall Apart, Phrenology and The Tipping Point. In 2009, The Roots were named the house band for Jimmy Fallon's Late Night.
Ahmir Khalib Thompson, known professionally as Questlove, is an American musician, songwriter, streamer, musician and journalist. He is the drummer and leader of hip hop group The Roots. The Roots is an internal group of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon since February 17, 2014. Questlove is also a cast member of the album producer for the Broadway musical Hamilton. He is the co-founder of the Okayplayer and OkayAfrica websites. In addition, he is an Assistant Professor at the Clive Davis Institute of Music and Record Music at New York University. Questlove has produced recordings for artists like Elvis Costello, Common, D'Angelo, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Bilal, Jay-Z, Nikka Costa and most recently Booker T. Jones, Al Green, Amy Winehouse and John Legend. He is a member of the Soulquarians, Randy Watson Experience, Soultronics, Grand Negaz and Grand Wizzards production groups. As an author he has written four books.
