Renato Júnior Luz Sanches ComM is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays in midfield for French club Lille and the Portuguese national team. Sanches started his career at Benfica, making his professional debut for the reserve team in October 2014 and for the first team in October 2015. In his first and only season with them, he helped Benfica win the Primeira Liga and Taça da Liga double, receiving the Primeira Liga Breakthrough Player and the Golden Boy. Sanches's performance then drew German Bayern Munich, who signed him for an initial € 35million, the highest amount at the time for a Portuguese player playing in the Primeira Liga. His form plummeted in his first season with the club, causing him to play infrequently. He also couldn't fit into the squad and had to compete with more experienced players, so he was loaned out by Premier League side Swansea City to play more often.
