Republican governor who ran for President in 2012 but lost. He was the longest continuously serving U.S. governor of Texas, winning three terms, and in 2013 he announced that he would not seek a fourth term as Governor. He was appointed US Secretary of Energy by Donald Trump in 2017.

James Richard "Rick" Perry is an American politician, was the 14th US Secretary of Energy from 2017 to 2019 and the 47th Governor of Texas from 2000 to 2015. Perry also failed to run for US President of the Republican Party in 2012 and 2016. Born to a cotton growing family in Haskell, Texas, Perry graduated from Texas A&M University in 1972 and married. Enter the United States Air Force, where he spent five years and attained the rank of captain. After leaving the Air Force in 1977, Perry returned to Texas and joined politics, as a member of the Democrats of the Texas House of Representatives from 1985 to 1991. In 1989, Perry changed party and became a member of the Communist Party. Republican, and elected to be the Texas Agricultural Commissioner. next year. In 1998, Perry was elected Lieutenant Colonel Governor of Texas, becoming the state's first Lieutenant Colonel Governor of the Republic since Reconstruction.
