In the film, Johnson starred in contrasting comedy and dramatic lead roles, including Danny in Nickelodeon's Splitting Adam and Arden Lowe in V.C Andrew's My Sweet Audrina. In his later teenage years, he began appearing in lead roles in teen "role-playing games" such as Young and Reckless as Bryce and as Drew Kell in the Color of Rain television series.
