Sheikh Hasina, also known as Sheikh Hasina Wazed, married, is a Bangladeshi politician who serves as the 11th Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, who has held this post since January 2009. Previously as Prime Minister for 5 years, she was the longest-serving prime minister in Bangladeshi history. Hasina is the daughter of the first president and founding father of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the eldest of his five children. His political career spanned more than four decades. She was previously Leader of the Opposition from 1986 to 1990 and from 1991 to 1995, then Prime Minister from 1996 to 2001. She has led Bangladesh's Awami Federation since 1981. In 2008, she returned as Prime Minister with a resounding victory. In January 2014, she became prime minister for the third term in an unapproved election boycotted by the opposition and criticized by international watchers.
