Tammy Suzanne Green Baldwin is an American politician who has been a young US Senator from Wisconsin since January 2013. In 2012, Baldwin was elected to the US Senate, beating Republican candidate Tommy Thompson. In 2018, Baldwin was re-elected, beating Republican candidate Leah Vukmir. Baldwin, a lesbian, became the first openly LGBT woman to be elected to the House and Senate in 1999 and 2013, respectively. She was also the first woman to be elected to either house. in Wisconsin.
