In 2013, he became Australia's 28th Prime Minister, having been born in London. In 2009, he took over as leader of the Liberal Party, and in 1994, he was elected to the House of Commons. Prior to being elected Prime Minister, he served as Leader of the Opposition for four years.
Anthony John Abbott is a former Australian politician who served as Australia's 28th Prime Minister from 2013 to 2015 and led the Liberal Party from 2009 to 2015. He was Leader of the Opposition from 2009 to 2013 and Congressman from Warringah from 1994 to 2019. He is currently an adviser to the UK Government's Department of Commerce. Abbott was born in London to an Australian mother and a British father, and moved to Sydney at the age of two. He studied economics and law at the University of Sydney, then attended Queen's College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, where he studied philosophy, politics and economics. After graduating from Oxford, Abbott briefly trained as a Roman Catholic seminarian, then worked as a journalist, manager and political advisor. In 1992 he was appointed Director of Australia's Constitutional Monarchy, a position he held until his election to parliament in the 1994 sub-election to Warringah.
