This Republican Party politician was elected Governor of Texas after serving as an Associate Justice of the Texas Supreme Court and Texas' fiftieth Attorney General. In January of 2015, he and his Lieutenant Governor, Dan Patrick, entered office.

Gregory Wayne Abbott is an American lawyer and politician, serving as the 48th governor and current Texas governor since 2015. As a member of the Republican Party, he was Texas' 50th Attorney General from 2002 to 2015. He is the third governor of a US state to use a wheelchair permanently. He was also the first disabled governor in Texas history. Abbott was elected governor in 2014 with 59% of the vote and was re-elected in 2018 with 56%. Abbott is the third Republican to hold the position of attorney general in Texas since the reconstruction. He was elected Attorney General with 57% of the vote in 2002 and re-elected with 60% in 2006 and 64% in 2010. Prior to assuming the position of attorney general, Abbott was a judge of the Supreme Court of Texas, a position he was originally appointed in 1995 by Governor George W. Bush. Abbott was elected for full term in 1998 with 60% of the vote.
