Before playing Owen Hunt in the widely known Grey's Anatomy, McKidd appeared as Tommy Mackenzie in Danny Boyle's Trainspotting, Count Vronsky in BBC Anna Karenina miniseries, Lucius Vorenus. In the historical series Rome and Dan Vasser in NBC's Journeyman series. He voiced John "Soap" MacTavish in the video games Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. He also played the role of Poseidon in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and Father Deegan in the special Father Ted Christmas.
