He is best known for his twelve-year spell with Manchester United in England. He became a manager for Manchester United's reserve squad and a partial owner of Salford City after retiring.

Nicholas Butt is an English football coach and former player who recently served as Manchester United's first head of development. He is also a co-owner of Salford City. He played professionally in midfield from 1992 to 2011. He started his career with Manchester United and spent 12 years in their first team, winning six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, four FA Community Shields, the UEFA Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup, before moving to Newcastle United in 2004. He spent a season on loan for Birmingham City between 2005 and 2006. He ended his career abroad playing for South China, where he won the Confederation Cup in Hong Kong. Butt made 39 appearances for England from 1997 to 2004. He was selected for the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2004.
